Welcome to year 13 design
This year’s course requires you to develop your own Independent theme. It is important to find a theme with which you have an interest or current knowledge as you will need ready access to objects, images (not from the net) and information. As stated in the explanatory notes
“Students are encouraged to explore work relating to their own cultural milieu and interests”
This programme will involve students generating and developing ideas based on 3 assessed areas.
Research and analyse approaches within established design practice. 3.1
Investigate and use ideas and methods in the context of a drawing study in design. 3.2
Produce original work within design to show extensive knowledge of art-making methods and ideas. 3.3
During the programme, students will have the opportunity to create their own theme which will be advertised or related to their initial research and drawing tasks (for 3.2). This work will be built upon for their boards but could also be used for boards ½ of board 1.
Within this programme of study, students will build on their already wide range of artists/designers who continue to inform their work and thinking. Also students will learn new design skills and concepts. They will have the opportunity to use handmade processes as well as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to impact on their final designs.
The 3 folio boards will be worked on throughout the year with various formative assessment points scheduled until all work is completed and handed in at approximately week 2 of term 4.
