Level 2 Gateway
Level 2
Where your workplace is your classroom and your employer is your teacher …
Gateway is a work experience arrangement between a recognised industry provider, and employer and Pukekohe High School. The Level 2 programme may be taken independently in addition to a normal school workload, or more preferably as your practical studies option for Level 2 Future Pathways (2GFPS) for one day per week for 20 weeks as a timetabled activity. There is a chance to gain 20 additional credits for NCEA and confidence in the workplace.

What Knowledge Will I Develop?
Practical, fun and applied best describes the knowledge learning for a Gateway student. Working and learning in an adult workplace environment with industry specialists helps build a self-confidence in you that puts you ahead of your peers in terms of a real awareness of opportunities and your next steps as a future member of the workforce. If your work experience is independent of your school timetable, you have the flexibility to develop your own work experience programme to fit in with the needs of your employer. This could mean working after school or weekends or school holidays. Your routine will force you at Level 2 to quickly learn how to manage your normal school studies with additional practical learning commitments, to be communicative, organised and thoroughly prepared.
See Mrs. Jillian Stone in Career Development Services for a complete list of Gateway opportunities and for advice and guidance on what else may be possible.

Subject Combination Notes
2GATEWAY may be taken independently, or more preferably as the practical studies component of Level 2 Future Pathways (2GFPS). Gateway BCATS students may be precluded from 2TBLD. Independent work experience in addition to a full school workload has the potential to overwhelm a student who is not prepared for its demands. Therefore, students can elect to carry out their work experience at times and opportunities that are mutually agreeable with their employer, i.e., at weekends or school holidays.
