Earlier this year, Tanisha (Yr 13) was selected for the New Zealand Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) team to compete in the Lifesaving World Championships in Adelaide, Australia.
The NZ IRB team have been crowned the first ever World IRB Champions following their successes at the international event.
The races, which replicated real-life rescue scenarios, were made up of a men’s and women’s race in each of the tube rescue, mass rescue and single rescue, with a final event comprising of both crews in the mixed teams rescue.
Tanisha’s haul of medals included; Gold – Mixed Team Rescue, Gold – Women’s team – Single Rescue, Silver – Women’s team – Tube Rescue, Silver – Women’s team – Mass Rescue.
Tanisha was introduced to surf lifesaving through the Te Ara Poutama programme which she participated in during year 10 and is a member of the Sunset Beach Surf Lifesaving Club at Port Waikato.
