The team had hoped to light the tournament up and put Pukekohe High School on the map and they can confidently say they did that in places.

Highlights of the tournament would be the perfect performance overcoming Otahuhu College starting the tournament off well 38-0, the nail-biting loss against a strong Fielding side which pushed both teams to their limits, supporting other local Counties Manukau schools on show and putting the biggest score out of all the fixtures on against St Pauls Collegiate Auckland, 59-5, Overall resulting in champions of the Consolation Bowl!

Tournament selectors noted Jarney Proctor and Tamehana Paruru for their outstanding performances.

Alongside this the coach would like to acknowledge Joseph Perry for his most improved gameplay, Filipe Setefano for his superb leadership all-round, Cohen Brady-Leathem for his courageous defence and Samuel Dickey for his attacking flair on the outside.

The team was coached by Mr Shaun Atamu, assisted by Cody Amoroa and Shey Eva and Managed by Nikki Bhana.

With the Olympics now hosting Rugby 7’s as one of the codes and a huge focus put on it as of late, potentially another great avenue to head down as an athlete.

Overall, thank you to the school, rugby committee and our family and friends.

The foundation has been laid and may this be the window to greater opportunities in the future.
