Dear parents and whānau

We have taken the decision to close Pukekohe High School for one day on Monday 23 March as a precautionary measure.

One student is being tested for Covid – 19  today, and the school closure on Monday is to allow time for the testing to be processed without risking infecting other children. The student is currently in self-isolation.

We apologise for the inconvenience that this will cause.

If the tests prove negative school will reopen on Tuesday 24 March as normal. Test results will be available in about 48 hours and the results will be made available as soon as possible.

If the tests prove positive, Auckland Regional Public Health Service will activate contact tracing processes.

We will advise you as soon as we have further information to pass on, and we are in close contact with the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health about this matter.

It is important that we keep in mind the following information:

  • There have been 39 confirmed cases in NZ to date (20 03 2020)
  • All have been linked to overseas travel only. This possible case is associated with overseas travel.
  • At this time there has been NO community spread of this in the country
  • There have been NO serious illness linked to the disease in New Zealand with most confirmed cases being cared for at home in self-isolation.

As the Prime Minister stressed yesterday it is important that we rely on official information about Covid – 19. Please refer to – https://covid19.govt.nz/ for factual and up to date information.

Thank you to all our community for your support and understanding through this time.

The day will be used as a planning day for the staff.

Richard Barnett
