Community Education in schools is a government funded resource, available for adults (all those over 16 years of age, who are not full-time secondary school students) to take advantage of continuing learning, at low cost.

Generally, classes are held in the evening, and at Pukekohe High School (PHS) on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. There are classes available during the weekday, held off campus. Fees charged for classes at PHS do not incur a rental charge, whereas those held off campus do, and have slightly higher fees to cover this.

The range of classes available is as varied as the tutors available to teach. Community members and/or tutors may suggest to the programme co-ordinator, classes / courses which may be offered to the community.

Community groups/clubs may apply for some of the 450 x tutor-hours available to them. These need to be approved by an advisory sub-committee towards the end of each year for the next year's allocation of hours.

  • Many classes have minimum and maximum numbers, so please enrol as soon as possible.
  • You will be notified if the class is full, or if a minimum number has not bee reached.
  • If you do not hear from us - please attend on the date advertised.
  • Fees will be refunded if a class fails to start or if the class is full. Refunds are not normally given once a class starts - a $10 administration fee will be deducted.
  • Classes are not usually held on public or school holidays.
  • Many classes evolve from requests made by members of the community. Let us know your needs, tutors may also notify us of classes that they could offer the community.
